                                       Mercy Central Idea

In this poem Shakespeare eulogizes the divine quality of mercy. He writes that mercy cannot be forced out from a human heart; it gushes out of a heart full of love and falls as liberally as rain from heaven.

He states that mercy is full of blessings; it blesses not only the giver, but the receiver also. The quality of mercy enhances the beauty and grace of a monarch more than his costliest crown.

Shakespeare writes that mercy is more potent than the power of a king’s scepter; it is in a just and wise king’s heart. Mercy is a divine quality that makes its possessor godlike. Even an earthly king becomes godlike when he blends mercy with his justice.

This poem is  composed by  William Shakespeare This  poem is a strong appeal of mercy. It is  a divine quality which is  spontaneous. It cannot  be  forced. It  works like  balm and  gently soothes the disturbed mind  like  the drizzling rain in  summers after  the scorching heat. It  is a quality of  God  Himself and the  one who  possesses it, is  respected , loved and worshipped more  than the one  who  has  all the  glamours of  earthly power  like  crown and  sceptre. It blesses both the  giver  and  the  receiver. The  earthy power  becomes Godlike when mercy  is mixed with justice.
