1. Pitch: Pitch of the screw gauge is defined as the distance moved by the spindle per revolution which is measured by moving the head scale over the pitch scale in order to complete one full rotation.

2. Least count of vernier callipers = one main scale division - one vernier scale division. Thus,the least count of a vernier is obtained simply by dividing the value of one division of main scale by the total number of divisions on vernier scale.
