It should be CH3CH2OH..

CH3CH2OH when oxidised with alkaline KMnO4 will give acetic acid (CH3COOH)

Dgupta: i know that equation. but the question specifically said "oxidation of propanol"
r2011raj: OK BTW which book?
Dgupta: 10 Years question papers by oswal
r2011raj: It must have been misprinted.
Dgupta: maybe... nt sure though...
