Explanation:

Ans a) Longitudes are known as meridians because in Geographical sense, meridians are great circles which are not parallel to each other but intersect each other at the North and the South Poles. Same stands true of the longitudes. All longitudes are great circles which meet at the Poles.

Ans b) The axis of the Earth is tilted at an angle of 23 1/2° from a perpendicular to the orbital plane. This tilting of the axis is called the inclination of the Earth's axis. Due to this inclination, the axis of the Earth makes an angle of 66 1/2° with the plane of the Earth's orbit.

Ans c) the distribution of the heat energy supplied to a thermomechanical system (as a steam power plant) among the various drains upon it including both useful output and losses also : an evaluation or record of such distribution.

Ans d) A rain shadow is a patch of land that has been forced to become a desert because mountain ranges blocked all plant-growing, rainy weather. On one side of the mountain, wet weather systems drop rain and snow.

Ans e) The major factors which influence the amount of insolation received are: Rotation of the earth on its axis.

1) Rotation of the earth on its axis.

2) The angle of incidence of the sun's rays.

3) Duration of the day.

4) Transparency of the atmosphere.
