In this chapter we had been taught about different types of challenges faced by democratic government because of people and because of other reasons. Challenge is not just any problem a challenge is a difficulty that carries within an opportunity for progress. Challenges are faced especially during deepening of democracy and during expansion.
There are different types of challenges faced by democracy which are as follows:-
1. Foundational challenges
This problem is faced by countries which are non Democratic. That is foundational challenge of making the transition to democracy and then instituting Democratic government. Thus involves bringing down the existing non Democratic regime and then establishing a Democratic government and democracy.
2. Challenge of expansion
This includes applying the basic principle of Democratic government across all the regions, different social groups and various institutions. Ensuring that great power is given to the government at local level state level or at national level. It includes inclusion of women and minority groups. Mostly countries like India and including other democratics like us also face this problem.
3. Deepening of democracy
This includes strengthening of democracy and practices of democracy. In this challenge it is explained like different people at different levels have different expectations from the government. Thus, this challenge takes different meanings and path in different countries of the world. Actually this involves strengthening of institutions that helped people's participation and control.
This concludes that challenges depends on what stage of social development is present in a country.
These are main challenges faced by democracy.
