Pandit Raj Kumar Shukla persuaded Mahatma Gandhi to visit Champaran. When Gandhi arrived in Champaran, he got to know more about the conditions of the farmers than Shukla was able to part to him. With the arrival of Gandhi, the Champaran Satyagraha set in motion. The British rulers opposed the epoch-making emergence of Gandhi to Champaran. They served an order asking him to abandon Champaran as soon as he materialised at Motihari. Gandhi contravened the order. After a considerable and massive struggle, the Government obliterate the ban on Gandhi staying there without the fear of arrest. For the first time on Indian soil, Satyagraha was lucrative.
