Sodium Chloride i.e. the salt which we eat is a neutral substance.It is formed by the reaction of a strong base : NaOH and a strong acid : HCl. Salt is not basic in nature to neutralize the HCl acid present in our stomach. THE STATEMENT GIVEN IN THE QUESTION IS WRONG.
