Indirect/Reported Speech refers to speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: Beatrice said,"I don't know what to do now." (Direct)

Beatrice said that she didn't know what to do then. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modification regarding certain words like 'can' changes to 'could', 'may' changes to 'might', 'you' changes to 'I', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day' and many other words will have to be made.

Mamta said,"I water these plants." (Direct)

Mamta said that she waters those plants. (Indirect)

Hope it helps :)
