In the lesson 'The Accidental Tourist' the author, Bill Bryson, while on a plane was sucking the end of his pen thoughtfully as he was writing a list. He fell into conversation with the lady sitting in the next seat. He later discovered, on retiring to the lavatory, that the pen had leaked and his mouth, chin, tongue, teeth and gums were a striking, scrub resistant navy blue.

While pondering over his writing he was chewing on his pen. He was so careless that he did not notice the ink getting into his mouth. It took longer for him to impress the lady sitting next to him. For ink also it was enough time to show the bizarre effect in his mouth.
