QUESTION:-
Character of Elaine in fourteen
ANSWER:-
- ELAINE in the play Fourteen written by Alice Gerstenberg was a young debutante and daughter of Mrs Horace Pringle who was a woman of fashion. Elaine was an upper-class young woman who made her first official appearance in the society at 3 O'clock in an evening gown and came running in with a bunch of place-cards
- Elaine used to be very scared of her mother. Even though Elaine did not want to attend the dinner that her mother organised she had to agree because her mother insisted. Elaine also obeyed orders from her mother to contact guests who will be able to come at the last moment’s invitation and she ended up calling the Tuppers unintentionally.
- Elaine was a girl who was too shy and not at all fussy to capture someone's attention. Elaine was discomforted after calling Tuppers, as they approved the invitation but they said that they had more two guests from their house who would also be attending the dinner with them. This led to an increase in the number of guests from fourteen to sixteen but the preparation was done for only fourteen guests.
