Ali was a most important character in the story 'the latter's. Full story revolves around him. He was one of the clever shikari at his young age , but after his daughter Miriam gone he left hunting. He loves her daughter a lot. He used to go post office in the early morning everyday to get the letter from her daughter. He never get irritated when postmaster insults him and said abusive to him

The chapter deals with the story of a old young man Ali who went to the post office daily in search for his daughter's letter.

Ali was a brilliant hunter who left hunting after he realized the pain behind separation. He had only one daughter Miriam who went to Punjab after her marriage and Ali was left all alone.

He went to the post office daily in hope of getting a letter from her daughter but unfortunately was never able to get it.
