Sir Simon de Canterville was the ghost in the novel. He was
the ancestor of Lord Canterville. He became ghost in 1584 after his mysterious
death after which his body had never been recovered. In 1575 he had murdered
his wife for not cooking the buck deliciously. He had been haunting the
Canterville Chase for the last 300 hundred years during which he had frightened
many people to death. He kept the blood stain in shape regularly. However, when
the Otis family arrived, he could not scare them at all. Rather he was shocked
at their fearlessness and scientific attitude. He had never been insulted by
anyone in his entire life. He tried many times to scare the Otis family; but
twins always foiled all his plans. He became so scared of the twins that he
confined himself to his secret chamber. However, when he interacted with
Virginia, we came to know about his repentance and sadness for his past
misdeeds. He requested her to help him get mercy from the angel of death.
