Dr Chisholm was an oculist in Baltimore who despite being unable to do anything about Helen's sight said that she could be educated and advised Arthur Keller to consult Dr Alexander Graham Bell of Washington.
He was an eminent oculist who had been successful in many cases which had seemed hopeless.
