Gordon was a married man with two children who set sail from Plymouth ,England, to emulate Captain James Cook's round-the-world voyage.
He was a courageous man who described what a man can achieve with determination when a calamity comes.
He injured himself when a huge outbreak shook the ship's deck and his head smashed into the wheel. He was thrown overboard, and found himself descending under the strong waves.
He felt that death was getting close to him, and lost his conscious. He thought that death was inevitable, and that his boat was going to capsize horizontally with water entering inside.
The thought of the survival of his family, however, gathered him back and he fought very hard until he had got all of them to safety.
