Jumman: Jumman was a very good friend of Alagu, He, like other humans, became greedy when he received his Aunt's property and ill-treated her and even refused to give her a monthly allowance. When his aunt reached the panchayat, Alagu, who was made the head panch, gave decision against Jumman, which badly affected their friendship. But when Alagu brought his case in the next panchayat, Jumman was made the head panch and he gave a decision in favour of Alagu, which rebuilt their friendship. In this way, we can say that Jumman was a man with his short coming (greed) but can forget his earthly ties when he becomes the head panch

Alagu: Alagu is shown in the story as a good man who supports the right decisions because when he became the head panch, he gave a decision against his friend and moreover, he insisted on his friend's mistakes and gave an order which is right. After some days, he had given his bullock to Samjhu Sahu, who didn't pay the money for it because the bullock had died due to being over worked. When Alagu took this matter to the panchayat, to his surprise, Jumman (who had become his foe) gave the judgement in favour of him. In this way, we can see that Alagu is shown in the story as a good man trying to live life according to the morally justifiable paths.
