Character sketch of:
Mrs. Pumphrey – She loved her dog, Tricki very much as she only had him as her company. Her love for him was to the extent that she couldn’t see that she was hampering his health. As Tricki loved to eat cream cakes and chocolates, she couldn’t resist herself to overfeed him with those delicacies. Over-pampering can be harmful for sometimes as it was also witnessed in the poetry that Mrs. Pumphery’s over-pampering brought Tricki into a stage where he was about to collapse and die. She was a very loving and kind hearted person who loved her dog more than anything in the world and she also was very strong while Tricki was taken away from her for the treatment.
Mr. Herriot – He was a very kind man and very dedicated to his profession. He was always ready to be there for help. As it’s showcased in the story as well that he was so concerned about the condition of the dog, Tricki that kept interrogating Mrs. Pumphrey about his health. He took Tricki with him without hesitation as his only motto was to improve his health. He took good care of him and handed him back to Mrs. Pumphrey. It was also seen in the poetry that Mr. Herriot was not greedy and clever as it was possible for him to keep Tricki for few more days in order to enjoy the meals and wine coming from Mrs. Pumphrey but he stopped himself from being carried away by the good food and wine and sent Tricki home.
