Mrs. Dorling was an extremely rude person that can be well judged by the way she treated the narrator. She faked complete ignorance when asked if she recognised the narrator. She was extremely unwilling to strike a polite decent conversation with the narrator. She chose convenience over etiquettes in inviting her inside the house. She was very discourteous and impolite.

Mrs. S was a simple, trustworthy woman who allowed Mrs. Dorling to take their things so that they would not be destroyed in the war. She was good natured and could not think of insulting anyone.

The narrator was a very loving, caring and obedient daughter. Having wanted to fulfill her mothers wishes she attempted to locate Mrs. Dorlings house and twice went there to retrieve her mothers belongings. She was practical and logical and seeing her belongings kept distastefully,she decided to forget everything and return with only her mothers good memories with her.
