Mrs Sarah Fuller played a memorable and exemplary role in Helen's life. When Helen learnt from Laura Bridgman about Ragnhild Kaata, a deaf and blind girl in Norway who had been taught to speak, she insisted on being taken to Miss Sarah Fuller, the principal of the Horace Mann School. She was a lovely, sweet-natured lady who offered to teach Helen herself.Miss Fuller allowed Helen to pass her hand lightly over her face, and let her feel the position of her tongue and lips when she made a sound. Miss Fuller gave Helen eleven lessons in all, which brought so much of delight in her life.

Sarah Fuller played an important role in life of Helen. Helen was a different child from others. She was deaf and blind so due to this disability she was unable to see others talking and movement of lips also not able to hear her voice. So, she always remained irritated. She then heard about a Norway girl. She was also deaf and blind but she was able to accomplish her dream. She made it possible only with the help of Sarah Fuller. The she also approached to her. She instead of sending a teacher herself taught Helen. While Fuller teaching her she touched her tounge and lips and tried to understand what she was saying and somehow able to speak but not completely. Only Miss Sullivan and Sarah Fuller was able to understand her words. In he autobiography Helen said that Fuller was loving and understanding.
