The spider was a very tricky fellow who's aim was to eat the delicious fly who was already aware of this because the person who ever walked into the parlour had never returned. He attracted all the prey by flattering them and describing about his web as if it had a little palour, winding stair, silken bed, preety, fine, thin curtains, a pantry, a looking glass . The fly had rejected the dangerous visit to the spiders web. Failed in his task, he tried to attract her by singing a song about fly and how he felt hurt when the fly rejected his invitation to his web. The fly, feeling pitty on him went inside the spiders web. But sadly there was no winding stairs. The spider draged the fly to the table and dined on it. So from this we should understand that do not go through the wrong path but the good only.

Answer:

This is a story told with great humour, depicting a common human weakness. The spider extends a cordial invitation to his potential victim ie; the fly, well aware of the danger, fends him off until he appeals to her vanity. To understand the true nature of the spider in the fable, we must relate to the manipulative present-day world, where an innocent/gullible person has close to no chances of survival.

Although the fly (our gullible character) knows that the spider is cunning and shrewd, she unwillingly wants to believe in the spiders words, just like any of us would believe in the words of an online fraud mafia offering us a trip abroad, it may not sound promising but the thought of luxury and comfort causes the slightest uncertainty which leads us to fall into the hands of the sly. The whole story revolves around the aphorism put forward by spider in order to deceive the fly onto his dinner table that he calls his parlour. The sly nature of the spider is a one to note that educates the reader of the natural world she/he lives. The power of flattery plays an important role in the poem helping us understand, the character of the spider.

Moving deeper into the poem we understand that Mary Howitt  further anthropomorphisez her character (fly) by giving her the trait of vanity(appealed to by the spider to the fly) .Even though the powerful deceiving nature of the spider had confused the fly it hadn’t been able to change her mind, but as soon as the spider started falsely acclaiming the fly’s physical appearance the fly had unknowingly fell into the spiders webs .In conclusion Mary Howitt tell us a cautionary tale of the spider and the fly , thoroughly expressing the shrewd nature of the spider.
