Black Midas is a book by Guyanese author Jan Carew published in 1969.
The protagonist Aron Smart is determined and strong willed. He is of the kind who will go to any extreme to achieve his dreams.
Aron Smart is an orphan who grows up with his grandparents in a farm. He drops out of school and works as a diamond prospector, striking it rich quickly. But shortly afterwards, he is duped of his wealth. He works hard to make up for this loss but is maimed in an accident, never to fully recover. In the end he dreams of returning back to the farm and leading a simple life.
