Henry Slater:
Unlike his wife he has a sense of humanity but he lacks individualism - as he blindly follows whatever his wife says.He is not as mean and greedy as his wife but he could have stopped her if he wanted to. He is not firm or assertive but he is not in favour of any party either.
Elizabeth Jordan :
She is the self obsessed daughter of Abel Merryweather and characteristically identical sister of Amelia Slater. She likes to do everything in competition with mrs Slater. They get into frequent fights over property and atlast , when she gets nothing she blames Amelia. She is unscrupulous, mean, greedy and crafty girl.
Ben Jordan:
Practical ,hypocritical, materialistic, logical and very unfeeling Ben Jordan is the comic character in the play with most of his dialogues rib tickling and cheeky. It is also evident that he is very prone to swearing as he calls his father- in- law "drunken old beggar" after it is found that the latter did not pay his premium.
