As chordates, vertebrates have the same common features: a notochord, a dorsal hollow nerve cord, pharyngeal slits, and a post-anal tail. Vertebrates are further differentiated from chordates by their vertebral column, which forms when their notochord develops into the column of bony vertebrae separated by discs

Hope it help you..............

Vertebrates:-

Vertebrates are advanced chordates. Notochord is present only in  the embryonic stages and it is replaced by a cartilagenous/bony vertebral column in the adult forms, while dorsal nerve cord is transformed into brain and spinal cord. Vertebral column and endoskeletal allow to have a completely  different distribution of muscle attachement points to be used for movement. Vertebrates are bilateral symmetrical, triploblastic, segmented, have paired gill pouches and a true coelom. There is complex differentiation of body tissues and organs.

Vertebrates are of 6 types:

(i) Cyclostomata

(ii) Pisces

(iii) Amphibia

(iv) Reptilia

(v) Aves

(vi) Mammalia
