Characteristics of Blood :

Blood is thicker and heavier than water.

It is slightly alkaline with pH between 7.35 and 7.45.

Its volume in man varies from 5 to 6 litres.

It forms 8 - 10 per cent of the body mass.

It is saltish in taste.

Hemoglobin brightens in colour when saturated with oxygen (oxyhemoglobin) and darkens when oxygen is removed (deoxyhemoglobin).
