Characteristics of compage region

Derwent Whittlesey, the famous political geographer introduced the concept of compage region. He was of the perspective, that if we combine some parts together, it will become a whole new area. For example, the states and union territories all together form a country.

A combination of few countries becomes a continent. And so on. So compage region can be defined as regional geography or a huge part of the area made by many small structures or in other words, a combination of many parts into a functional whole.
