Bismillah Khan was born on 21st March,1916.

The shehnai was played traditionaly in the temple at the royal courts and wedding.The credit must go to Bismillah Khan to take this instrument on to the classical stage .

Bismillah Khan got his big break when All India Radio was opened in Lucknow.Soon he became an often hard player on radio.

Bismillah Khan played the shehnai on 15th August,1947 in the red fort.That event was historic because India gained Independence on that auspicious day.On that day Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru attended the occasion.

Bismillah Khan loved India very much so that he refused to start a shehnai school in the U.S.A . Whenever Bismillah Khan was in a foreign country,he kept yearning to see Hindustan .While in Mumbai he thought of only Banaras and the holy Ganga.And while in Banaras ,he missed the unique mattha of Dumraon.
