Characteristics of Permanent tissue:-

Cells of these tissues have no power of division.

Cells are well developed and properly shaped.

Cell wall is comparatively thick.

Nucleus of the cells are bigger and cytoplasm is dense.

Usually there are vacuoles in the cell.

There may have intercellular spaces in between cells.

Answer and explanation

Tissue is a cellular organisational level between cells and a complete organ. Example xylem and phloem.

The permanent tissues in a plant are those tissues that contain non dividing cells. Permanent plant tissues are found in mature plants.

CHARACTERISTIC OF PERMANENT TISSUE

  1. Permanent tissues might be either simple or complex in nature.
  2. Cells of these tissues have no power of division.
  3. These tissues are derivatives of meristematic tissue.
  4. Cells are well developed and properly shaped.
  5. Cells or tissues may be living or dead and cell walls may be thin or thick.
  6. The cell wall is comparatively thick.
  7. Cells may surround reserve, excretory or secretory substances.
  8. The nucleus of the cells are bigger and cytoplasm is dense.
  9. Permanent cells have lost their power of division except for  parenchyma.
  10. Usually, there are vacuoles in the cell.
  11. Inter-cellular spaces might be present or absent.
  12. There may have inter-cellular spaces in between cells.
  13. Their cells are well differentiated and are found in a diversity of shapes.
  14. Metabolic activities are comparatively slow.
  15. The metabolic activity is low in these cells compared to meristematic tissues.
  16. Vacuoles are prominent. Their cells show large vacuoles.
  17. They are mature tissue and the cell has lost the capacity of cell division.
