Phycomycetes are the lower fungi which basically form a nonseptate mycelium.

Characteristics:
- Members of this group are found in aquatic habitats
-The organisms of this class also on decaying wood
- They also act as parasites on some plants
-Reproduction is asexual
-The mycelium is aseptate
