- They're double - membrane bound
- They have their own DNA and ribosomes
- They're involved in the synthesis and storage of food
- They're semi - autonomous
- There are three types of Plastids which are classified based on the pigment present inside them :
- Chloroplasts : Green Pigment is present which is called chlorophyll
- Chromoplasts : Contain Carotinoide and Xanthophyll , they impart colours to flowers to attract pollinators
- Leucoplasts : They are colourless and store food in the form if carbohydrates , fats and proteins .
