3x + 12 =  - 8 \\  \\ x =  \frac{ - 20}{3}

Answer:

3x + 12 = 2x - 4

3x - 2x = - 4 - 12

1x = - 16

x = - 16

Verification:

LHS = 3x + 12

= 3 × (- 16) + 12

= - 48 + 12

= - 36

RHS = 2x - 4

= 2 × (- 16) - 4

= - 32 - 4

= - 36

LHS = RHS hence, verified.

Extra:

When we transfer the numbers and variables to the other side,
