The synclinal trough-shaped Doon Valley is bounded by the Precambrian rocks of the Lesser Himalayan formations (Pre-Tertiary) in the north and Tertiary Siwalik (Mio Upper Pleistocene) in the south. The center of the valley is covered by a thick pile of Quaternary alluvium spread out in fans and terraces.
