The narrator is Mini's father. He is a novelist and we find that he was writing the seventeenth chapter of the novel when Mini interrupts him. He is a patient listener. He listens to Mini very patiently. He is very loving and caring towards Mini and does not scold her. He protects Mini from her mother's anger. He believes that things which are beyond one's age of knowing should not be made known to one. He has a very large heart. To help the Kabuliwala he cuts some items from the list of Mini's marriage and gives the money to Rahamat to go back to his country where Rahamat's daughter and family lived as he understood the paternal love of the Kabuliwala.
