Joanna or Johnsy
Joanna was a struggling artist of New York.She was small, thin and weak. After spending a few months in New York, she became ill with pneumonia and showed no signs of improvement. Joanna had made up her mind that she is never going to be cured . She looked out of the window on an ivy vine and watched the leaves of it fall one by one. She was waiting for the last lead to fall so she could breathe her last. Joanna felt better when she saw the last leaf still there even after rain and fierce wind blowing through out the night.T made her realize that it is a son to want to die.


Mr.Behrman
Berhman was an old painter who lived in the ground floor beneath Sue and Joanna.Berhman was a failure in Art, for forty years he has wielded the brush but had not made any money. For several years he had only made a few paintings. He earned little by serving to young artists in colony who could not afford other models. He always talked of his coming masterpiece. He was a fierce man who scoffed terribly at softness in anyone.Also he felt that it was his duty to protect the artists above in the studio. His master piece saved Joanna's life!.
