Mr. Kleiman, a Dutch, has a marked reference in Anne Frank's 'The Diary of a Young Girl'. She refers him with a pseudonym, Mr. Koophuis. He is depicted as a "very kind" and "generous person". Be it from helping Mr. Frank's various businesses or in helping Frank's family to hide from the Nazi's, his benevolence is remarkable.

He is also brave enough to act against the Nazi's as he cleverly hides the Franks in his house. He is skilled in various jobs like banking, bookkeeping, and business as he helps Mr. Frank's businesses during his hiding.

Later, he was arrested by the Nazis and then released to Red Cross due to his illness. Then he helped a lot in forming the Anne Frank Foundation.
