Mr. Van Daan was a businessman and a friend of Anne's father, Otto Frank. During German occupation he and his family members moved in with franks into the Annexe to save themselves from Germans, as they all were Jews. Anne in her diary describes him as a boastful, highly self opinionated person who always thinks himself as the most knowledgeable person. He has frequent arguments with his wife but after sometime they makeup and sort out the differences. He often makes meat products for the members in the hideout. While having dinner with the members of the hideout he behaves strange. He takes some major portions of the meal that he likes without even thinking about others. He usually joins in a conversation and never fails to give his opinion. Once he has spoken, he expects others to take his words as final. Mr Van Daan mat a tragic. When the members of the Annexe were arrested he was gassed at Auschwitz towards the end of 1994.

Characteristics of Mr Van Daan

But Anne calls her Petronella van Daan in her diary. Anne initially describes Mrs. van Daan as a friendly, teasing woman, but later calls her an instigator.
