you have to draw this graph
and then ,
distance travel be s = area of trapezium 1/2 × sum of parallel sides × distance between parallel sides
so,
s = 1/2×(OA+BC)×OC
OA =u ,BC=v and OC=t
s = 1/2(u+v)×t
from 1st equation t = v-u/a
so,,,,,
s = (u+v) (v-u) / 2a
s = v square - u square /2a
hence, equation is drived
v square - u square = 2as
