Chemical effect of the electric current: The passage of an electric current through a conducting solution causes chemical reaction. That may cause formation of bubbles of a gas on the electrodes, deposites of metal on electrodes, changes of colour of solutions etc.

For example when an electric current is passed through acidified water then bubbles of oxygen and hydrogen gases are produced at two electrodes. This is a chemical effect of electric current. As solids conduct electricity, some of the liquids like acids, bases and salts also conduct electricity.

there are many useful effects of electric current. one of them is chemical effect. We can use electricity for chemical reactions. the best example for this is charging of a battery. We get electricity through battery is done by chemical reactions in it. When we charge it, backward reaction is done and the battery is is ready for work.
