Chennai should be hotter than Delhi in the summer season as the places near the equator have higher temperature than those away from it. but it is not so. why?

Answer:

see the distance from the equator doesn't matter in this case, it's not a dominating factor. the presence of sea matters more.

Chennai is in coastal area so that means it has a non fluctuating climate throughout the year, moderate temp and humid. whereas Delhi faces much extreme climates because 1) no sea present 2) Himalayas blocking the chilly winds from Siberia

so it doesn't take too much for the temp to increase too much in Delhi as compared to Chennai
