Child abuse is a very serious problem in our country. Children are forced by circumstances to work in various factories. Write an article, on the topic ‘Child Abuse’. Take ideas from the following lines:
“None of them knows that it is illegal for children like him to work in the glass furnaces 1 with high temperatures, in dingy cells without air and light; that the law, if enforced, could get him and all those 20,000 children out of the hot furnaces where they slog their daylight /hours, often losing the brightness of their eyes.”

Though India achieved independence many decades ago, there are certain regressive problems that the nation is yet to address. Child abuse is one such social issue. Lack of awareness and poverty continue to fuel child abuse.
Parents are not aware of the fact that child abuse is illegal and that they can be legally punished for it. In many uneducated households, parents push children to work in dangerous places, like mines. The employers also do not pay attention to the inhuman conditions that can actually cause the death of a child. It is profitable for them to hire children because then they need to pay less. The children too, quietly suffer without knowing how to escape. If they try to escape, they are badly beaten by parents and employers.
Additionally, poverty plays a big role in promoting child labour and abuse. Penniless families send children to work at an early age, to get additional money. Children in such families are not treated as human beings. They are seen as bread earners, who have to go to work irrespective of ther own physical weaknesses. Sending them to school means losing a source of income, which the families cannot afford to do.
Child abuse can be stopped by spreading awareness, funding campaigns, reporting any incidents of child abuse to the police and not hiring underage workers in homes and offices. The trend needs to stop and each citizen should do his/her bit.
