Childhood memory with parents

Answer:
For me it was my tenth birthday when my father gave me a Red Rider BB Gun. I had all the excitement of Ralphy in the movie "Christmas Story". Part of the movie's great appeal is the identification with the family dynamics. Just as with Ralphy, to be given that gun by your very respected father at that age meant several things. You had demonstrated a certain level of responsibility and trust. Your father, though not showing it, had actually been acutely aware of what his son dearly wanted. The gun was in a way a symbol of passage from childhood into early manhood, like a young indian boy getting his first bow and arrow (or perhaps a cell phone today). It also meant that the boy's father was willing this time to go against the mother's wishes because, dad knew it meant that much to his son, and with that they had a new level of bonding.
