Given :  Children were fallen in for drill.

If each row contained 4 children less, 10 more rows would have been made.

But if 5 more children were fallen in each row the number of rows would have reduced by 5.

To Find :  Number of children in the school.

Solution:

Number of Children in each row  = C

Number of Rows = R

Total Children  = RC

If each row contained 4 children less, 10 more rows would have been made.

=> (C - 4) (R + 10)  = CR

=> CR  + 10C - 4R  - 40  = CR

=> 10C - 4R = 40

=> 5C - 2R  = 20   Eq1

if 5 more children were fallen in each row the number of rows would have reduced by 5.

=> (C + 5)(R - 5)  = CR

=> CR + 5R - 5C - 25 = CR

=>  R = C + 5

Substitute in Eq1

5C - 2(C + 5)  = 20

=> 3C = 30

=> C = 10

R = 15

Total Children  = RC = 15(10) = 150

Hence number of children in the school.  = 150
