Chirag made a bird-bath for his garden in the shape of a cylinder with a hemispherical depression at one end, (see the figure 14.11). The height of the cylinder is 1.5 m and its radius is 50 cm. Find the total area of the bird-bath. (????= 3.14)

Given :

Height of the cylinder = 1. 5 m = 1.5 × 100= 150 cm.

[ 1m = 100cm]

Radius of cylinder = 50 cm.

Total surface area of bird bath = curved surface area of cylinder + curved surface area of hemisphere

T.S.A of bird bath = 2πrh + 2πr²

T.S.A of bird bath = 2πr(h+r)

= 2 × 3.14 × 50 (150 + 50)

= 3.14 × 100 × 200

= 3.14 × 20000

T.S.A of bird bath = 62800 cm²

Hence, the total surface area of bird bath = 62800 cm²

Radius = 50cm

Height = 1.5m = \frac {15}{10} \times 100 = 150cm

Total surface area of bird bath = Curved surface area of cylinder + Curved surface area of hemisphere

 =  > 2\pi  rh + 2\pi  {r}^{2}  \\  \\  =  > 2\pi r(r + h) \\   \\  =  > 2 \times 3.14 \times 50(50 + 150) \\  \\  =  > 2 \times  \frac{314}{100}  \times 50 \times 200 \\  \\  =  > 314 \times 200 \\  \\  =  > 62800
\textbf{Hence, 62800cm^2 is your answer !!}
