We know that the methyl group has a mild electron donating effect, this is called inductive effect. Due to the electron donating effect or effect, the ortho- position, that is 2 and 6-position with respect to the methyl group, and para-position, that is 4-position with respect to methyl group, becomes more electron rich, this causes the electrophilic attack, and then forms, ortho-substituted and para substituted product.
