The chloride ions are oxidised by electron loss to give chlorine molecules at the positive electrode which attracts negative ions. The chloride ion is oxidised to chlorine gas molecules in any chloride salt solution electrolysed, hydrochloric acid and in any electrolysis of a molten chloride salt.
