Chlorine has higher electron gain enthalpy than fluorine because due to small size of fluorine some energy is utilized in overcoming the force of repulsion among electrons. . but chlorine has bigger size and can easily

afford an extra electron, so its electronegativity is higher than fluorine.

It is also because chlorine has 17 electrons so when an electron is added it attains a noble gas configuration so it have higher electron gain enthalpy

Chlorine doesn't have most electron gain enthalpy....fluorine has the most electron gain enthalpy

Because..the factors of electron gain enthalpy are:

1.nuclear charge

2.screening effect

3.penetration power of orbitals

4.stable configuration

5.atomic radius

As consideration of nuclear charge ...we know that nuclear charge increases in the periods from left to right and decreases in the group from top to bottom...hence fluorine has most electron gain enthalpy
