METALS REACT WITH DILUTE ACIDS, WATER AND OXYGEN, WHILE NON-METALS REATS WITH AIR OR OXYGEN TO FORM THEIR CORRESPONDING NON-METTALIC OXIDES. GENARALLY NON-METAL DONT REACT WITH WATER AND DILUTE ACIDS BUT CHLORINE WITH WATER AND SULPHUR WITH NITRIC ACID REACTS.

suneena046p4i2tk: why is it called an active non-metal?
lateekajasoria249: ok
lateekajasoria249: Chlorine has 7 electrons in its outer shell. It only needs one electron to fill up that shell. It can attract that electron better than all the other elements in period 3, because it has more protons. It is very reactive and hence a very active non-metal.
