Chlorine occurs in natures in two isotomic form with mass 35 u and 37 u in the ratio of 3:1 calculate the average atomic mass of chlorine atom on the basis of this date

firstly we have to find the percentages :-

3x + 1x = 100

4x = 100

x = 25

 

3x = 3 * 25 = 75 %

1x = 1 * 25 = 25 %

 

Average atomic mass = ( 35 * 75/100 ) + ( 37 * 25/100 )

 = 26.25 + 9.25

 = 35.5 u
