A common source of confusion when calculating date distances between BC and AD (or BCE and CE) is that there was no year 0. AD 1 was immidiately preceded by 1 BC. Hence, Caesar's birth in 100 BC was 2116 years ago rather than 2117 years ago (as of 2017).
