Calcium is a metal and becomes a positively charged ion.

  1. Calcium is an alkaline earth metal. It has two electrons in its outermost shell. So, in order to gain stability, it loses two electrons and finally holds complete octet in outermost shell.
  2. On loss of two electrons, it gets charge of +2 and hence becomes cation.
  3. Anion is a negatively charged ion and cation is a positively charged ion.
