Answer:
(I) We know that silkworms produce silk. Silk is a natural protein fibre which can be woven into textiles. Also, the protein fibre of silk is made up of fibroin and is produced from silkworm's larvae to form cocoons. The protein fibre secreted by silkworm gets hardened on exposure to the atmosphere and becomes silk fibre.
(ii) Natural silk is obtained from the cocoons of silkworms and it is made up of a protein. Natural silk is an animal fibre. Artificial silk is obtained from wood pulp and it is made up of modified plant material 'cellulose'.
(iii) Mulberry silk is the most common among the many kinds of silk. It makes up 90% of the silk supply in the world. This popular kind is produced by the bombyx mori silkworms which are fed from the mulberry bush (thus the name). Since it is a common kind of silk, acquiring it is easy.
(iv) The Patanwadi breed of sheep is found in the coastal plains of the Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat, and the sandy loamy areas of Patan, Panch Mahals and Mehsana districts of Gujarat.
(v) Sorter's Disease is another name for Anthrax. It is caused by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis. Historically, anthrax was called wool sorter's disease because individuals who sorted wool of infected animals contracted the disease.
