There are four kinds of chromosomes.

Explanation:

1. TELOCENTRIC : These are rod shaped chromosome with centromere occupying the terminal position so that they possess only one arm .

2. ACROCENTRIC : These are rod shaped chromosomes with a subterminal centromere . In acrocentric chromosome , one arm  is very long and the other one is very short . This chromosomes appear J shaped .

3. METACENTRIC : These are V shaped chromosomes in which centromere lies in the middle of chromosome so that the two arms are almost equal .

4 . SUBMETACENTRIC : These are L-shaped chromosome with centromere  slightly away from the mid points so that the two arms are unequal .
